Welcome to my language learning journey!

Hello there! I’m Petra, an English teacher and a language learner just like you. I’m so glad you’re here. My passion for teaching English stems from my own experiences as a beginner language learner. I remember the frustration and excitement of making mistakes, but also the joy of finally getting it right with the help of fantastic teachers.

Born in the picturesque town of Nižná in the north of Slovakia. Slovakia is home to the Tatra Mountains, which are the highest mountain range in the Carpathian Mountains. These mountains offer stunning views and outdoor recreational opportunities such as hiking, skiing, and snowboarding. Additionally, Slovakia has a rich cultural heritage, with many medieval castles and historic cities like Bratislava and Košice. The country is also famous for its traditional folk music, costumes, and cuisine.

I had the chance to broaden my horizons and immerse myself in different cultures during my high school years through the Erasmus+ program. This educational initiative for youth allowed me to travel to vibrant cities like Prague in the Czech Republic, Salamanca in Spain, and Genova in Italy, where I had the opportunity to connect with intersting people from all over the world.

I pursued my Master’s degree in English Language and British and American Literature at the University of Žilina in Slovakia. During my studies I embarked on an unforgettable journey in Turkey, where I was privileged to study at the esteemed University of Karabük for a full academic year. My education was truly elevated by the brilliant and knowledgeable Turkish professors, but it didn’t stop there. I also had the opportunity to learn from world-renowned instructors from Canada and Florida. These lectures brought new perspectives and added a dynamic international flair to my university experience.

Traveling to different countries, especially at a young age, requires financial resources. To finance my trips, besides being grateful for my parents’ support, I also took on multiple part-time jobs, each of which taught me valuable lessons and provided unique experiences. At 17, I worked as a lumberjack for a few months and later picked peaches in the Czech Republic. I also worked in Italy’s Tyrol region, where I harvested strawberries. I held various other positions, including receptionist, waitress, bartender, shop assistent, and chambermaid.

After earning my degree in English language and literature, I started to work in various language schools. This experience broadened my horizons and honed my skills as an educator. I have taught students from all over the world, of different ages and levels, and hold certifications in TEFL, TKT, and TPR.

TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification provides training and skills in teaching methodology, language analysis, and lesson planning, which are essential for effective teaching.

TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) is a series of modular teacher certification tests developed by Cambridge Assessment English. The TKT modules assess the knowledge and understanding of English language teaching.

TPR (Total Physical Response) Is a teaching method in which language learning is done through physical movements or actions. The goal of TPR is to provide students with a way to connect language to physical actions in order to remember and internalize the language more easily.

Now, I am based in sunny Spain, where I share my passion for the English language through online lessons and this website. My mission is to offer you the most engaging and effective learning resources to help you achieve fluency in English.

I’m so excited to be on this language learning journey with you. Let’s make it a successful one!

Cheers!

Petra
